Online Bible Study 3: Salvation and Atonement

After Harold gave us a lesson in Church History and some of the influential players in our Western conception of Christianity, he talked this week of what true salvation and atonement look like through the death and resurrection of Jesus. Listen as Harold discusses about the Hebraic view that the heart is the core of a person and not the mind. Think about your own worldview and how biases may be impacting your understanding of the resurrection power of Jesus.

Harold covered in depth what salvation is for Christians and walked us through Paul's understanding in the book of Romans. Jesus died but more importantly, He ROSE again; Hallelujah! We hope this teaching will help you access that same resurrection power and live a more victorious life. bless you!

  1. How do we address the verses in 1 Pe 1:18 and 19 about being redeemed? Doesn't that imply a price paid?

  2. If I understand Harold correctly, he isn't focusing on whether a price was paid. What I think he is saying is that we should look at what Jesus did and see His motive as forgiveness rather than requiring someone to be punished. In Western Christianity, there is too much focus on sidestepping punishment/wrath from a just God and not enough focus on seeing the fact that God did this so he could forget our sins and give us another chance.

We need to focus more on getting the core of our heart in tune with the reality of Jesus because, after doing this, it is easy to accept everything else He did, especially the incredible open door given to us through His resurrection - one that I believe many of us (including myself) still do not entirely grasp. If we did entirely grasp it now, there would be already so many miracles happening in the States that the world would probably wig out.
